The List

The Guardian have published a particularly hard-hitting article – The List, investigating the death toll faced by asylum seekers as they attempt to enter Europe. These deaths range from drowning at sea due to overcrowded and unsafe boats, detention camps if they reach their goal.

One of the most chilling aspects is that these numbers are in actuality going to be far higher as our information is incomplete, having been gathered principally by volunteers – so many others have lost their lives, invisibly, which for me at least adds hugely to the tragedy of all of this.

Below you’ll be able to find a copy of The List itself, recording the names and causes of deaths of those we know about. Seeing this in stark black and white strips away a layer of abstraction; these were real people, with names, fleeing conflict and searching for a better place to continue their lives.
