We need new volunteers for our sewing projects

Leicester City of Sanctuary Drop-in sewing group produced these colourful patchwork cushions. These were commissioned by the British Red Cross after the successful quilting project (9 beautiful quilts were made and exhibited earlier this year).

These cheerful cushions will be used at the Red Cross Refugee Service Centre in Oadby and and some will be passed on to refugees setting up their own homes. The sewing group is going from strength to strength – producing a variety of attractive goods for sale to help fundraise and projects for themselves too. They are currently working on African shirts and will then start on patchwork skirts. Soon we will have new sewing machines thanks to The Clothworkers Foundation generous grant. Now all we need are more volunteers to support the group, to inject new ideas and to help with cutting and preparation. Thanks to volunteer Mary Campbell for her efforts to support this group of women who so enjoy their Thursday afternoons at the drop-in.
