Lift the Ban

As you already might be aware, under current legislation, Asylum Seekers are prohibited from working for months, or even years whilst they await a decision on their asylum claim. This leaves the vast majority in poverty, weakens social cohesion and promotes loneliness and isolation.

We think that’s wrong.

Lift the Ban is a coalition working to change this, and with good reason – recent reports show that if the ban were lifted, Asylum Seekers would contribute £42m annually to the UK Economy, and combat poverty.

If you want to help, you’re not alone. 71% of the public agree that Asylum Seekers should be allowed to work, which is an incredibly high level of consensus on the issue, and this level of support is just one of the reasons why the work ban should be lifted.

How can you help?

One of the best ways for you to help is to write to your MP and add your voice to the majority who would like to see the ban overturned. We’ve prepared a template letter for you to use – all you need to do is download it, add your details, print it out and then email it or post it to your respective member of Parliament.

Personally, I’d recommend posting it as physical letters are far harder to ignore!
