A wonderful day at Leicester City stadium

Our partners Dawn, John and Adam, at Leicester City in the Community, led a fantastic tour of the King Power Stadium for us, and a special mention needs to go to our volunteer Amin, who make the whole day all the better by doing such a great job with the interpretation

We saw the reception area, the Gallery, one of the private boxes, the Directors’ Lounge, which houses the Trophy cabinet, the Media Suite and the City players’ changing rooms. We also went pitch side to sit in the players seats! We finished off with a few games in the club’s Community Hub and some photos by the former Chairman’s statue. It was a truly memorable day, and we all now know that Leicester City’s mascot is a fox!

One guy, who arrived very early, told me that he was very excited, as he had never been inside a Premier League stadium before. He beamed throughout the tour and said afterwards “thank you for this day, I am very happy”

John and Adam told us a lot about the history of the club including where the previous stadium was, about the former managers and players, and which trophies the Club has won over the years. We learnt that the Club has had an official Women’s team for 5 years.

As we walked round the group showed their knowledge of football by naming players in the photos and asking questions such as ‘where is the manager’s office’ (it’s at the Seagrave training ground) and why they didn’t see any photos of the Women’s team? Dawn said her team had also raised that question and it was something they were looking at.

The game we are playing in the Community Hub was called boccia (a kind of seated boules). It was great fun!

John also pointed out the view of Bradgate Park, from a third floor corridor, and told the group that was where a former Queen of England lived! We often go on trips there too!
