Hey everyone – our NEST Team is in need of some new volunteers, and we were hoping you (or somebody you might know!) might be interested. This team is a very important part of Leicester City of Sanctuary, but I’d understand if you didn’t know exactly what it does. It’s our New Evidence Search Team, and they help Asylum Seekers find and present evidence to help their cases. Here’s a little more information: –
“NEST caseworkers look at asylum cases where the client wants to submit a fresh claim and needs new evidence in order to do so. Cases are referred to us by the British Red Cross. Our role is to read carefully through the existing documentation on each case and suggest possible evidence that the clients might find to support their claims (e.g. letters from their country of origin, birth certificates, etc.). Often, our work involves going slowly over the case with the client in order to sort out those details which have become confused through multiple interview transcripts and (mis-)translations.
NEST volunteers meet as a group once monthly (online 5:00pm-6.30pm on the first Wednesday of every month) to discuss ongoing cases and allocate referred cases to volunteers. Meetings with clients (online and in-person) are arranged on an ad-hoc basis”
If you’re interested in applying, you can either click the Volunteer button at the top of the page, which will take you to the part of the site containing the job description and instructions, or you can just click this link to hop right over.
