Leicester City of Sanctuary was represented at the second Sanctuary in Parliament event by Michael (volunteer), Sam ( refugee) and Amjad (asylum seeker) on Tuesday 1st December. The event was organised by City of Sanctuary and over 150 refugees and partners from across the refugee sector attended with 50 MPs from all the major parties, who came to listen to refugee testimony on issues such as destitution, detention and safe and legal routes.
A professional doctor specialising in trauma and paediatrics, Amjad spoke about how difficult it is for asylum seekers unable to work and his message was carried into the Immigration Bill debate in the chamber by one MP who heard him.
